december views

I have 2 million things to do. But I did this instead. Good to get back to the spinning wheel.

My daughter is an artist too.

Very unfussed about the whole holiday thing. Sleeping in the sun. There you go.

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef

The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef exhibit in D.C. is coming to a close next week, still time to see this beauty! It's at the National History Museum.

An amazing display of nature and art coming together..

Words cannot describe the work done here. Hours and hours of crochet. With every type of fiber or non fiber you could imagine. Cassette tape, twist ties, every sort of yarn possible.

Color color color

These 'towers' were treasures. Fiber sculpture. Unbelievably beautiful.

All iridescent beads on this one

And a 'toxic' reef all made of plastic stuff, bottle tops, beer cans, netting, all types of trash.

Ends April 24th..

heart

Ah February, what is it about this month? It makes me crazy. I think it's like August, because it comes at the end of a long season. Anyway, been sort of working on some yarn love.

and I'm not sure what this is going to be yet, but it is shaping into something nice, I think.

this picture is hanging on the inspiration board, holes, tatters and all

late spring

I've managed to finish this shawl: These colors really remind of the sea.. turquoise, lavender, moss greens.. I loved making this one. Two yarns, alternating, one a rayon ribbon, the other a thick and thin loose spun wool, hand dyed..
The garden has exploded in color, texture and weeds! Must. get. some. pictures.
Sweet pea..

pink roses, my all time fav..

an Asian lily.. love the color combos here..

I feel overwhelmed at the moment, school is coming to a close, the house, the new work in progress.. need to relax and take things one at a time. I'm a horrible multi-tasker. I end up doing things in halves.. one step at a time..

I've had my nose in this:

and sorting out this:

look what appeared, but no fairy to fold..

and these! wow, now if I can find that fairy to put this away! must be hidden in the laundry!

Sunday

I was tagged by lovely Monatka, who does the most wonderful things with fiber and felt, in Inverness, Scotland, no less, on 5 things I love every day..

1. I try and pray each and every day. Love stems from this.
2. Coffee is a must, I like it very strong.
3. Art in just about every form or fashion is always on my mind. I've taken to carrying a small sketch pad, just so I can 'get it out' of my head..
4. I love how each and every day is new. The saying is true, things that are monumental in the night, are usually in perspective in the morning. (See #1)
5. Music is always a part of my day. I like all of it. Really..well just about..

I will tag Jackie , Kayla , and Annie Their style and their blogs knock me out!

black

I've been bad about taking pictures of done projects, which was the whole point of doing this blog! Will work on that. Anyway, I've found black particularly difficult to photograph. This is a small 1/2 scarf, which snuggles around just the neck. Secured with a button. A combo of manos yarn, and lighter weight black acrylic..

handmade

I try to give a lot of handmade things, but not everyone in my sphere likes getting those types of gifts..so I trudge through the stores and do my thing. It's getting smaller, year by year though, those trips..

I did some illustration work in the day, and still like and collect children's books with wonderful illustrations. They inspire me.

I've done some handmade cards for our New Year's party:

Here's some potential, I'd like to sit down with, but alas, will have to wait a while...I haven't found a Colinette or a Noro yarn I didn't like.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas, no stressing!

I am Thankful

For the small, insignificant things I used to overlook, but now I stop and really see them.

The color of things, the way they are put together, the way food really tastes. How much there is to be thankful for. Even when you don't feel like it.

The simplest things are what matters. God, family, conversation, eating meals together. Where ever you are I wish you a very Thankful Holiday. Shalom.

stepping stones

I've intend to make an entire blanket with this type of treatment. I've used various Noro's here, silk garden, kocoran, kureyon , crochet in various circles, then 'attaching' with crochet 'mortar'. A very freeing exercise, even more than, say, the granny square. Right now it's a stepping stone scarf, on it's way to where the road leads to.. yarn heaven?

energy

I'm in high creative mode right now, which I am grateful for. The yarn, paint and fabric are flowing like a river. Unfortunately, I can not find the *&$#@ camera for some w-i-p pictures! I'll find it grrr... anyway, here are few shots I had uploaded recently, top is a color pencil drawing about 18 x 18", it's framed under glass, so it's tricky to take a picture of it..
Middle is a mixed media piece, mainly fabric, beads and acrylic paint on canvas, about 18 x 24", it's a series about Lot's wife.
And the last is the yarn explosion going on around here... :-) I see you Noro!

A basket weave stitch that was a little hard to keep up with, considering the variegated yarn..ready for the cold weather!

garden knitting

Loving the pink and orange of the garden right now...a large cotton yarn shawl WIP, Patagonia cotton yarns (love) in variegated pinks, and oranges and size 11 needles.. green edges?? perhaps.
