Probably no one you've heard of. But J. Morgan Puett is an artist I'd like to be... 100% integrated, and lives her life like it's another time. She makes art, garments, interiors and I just don't know what. Her work is evocative and timeless.. she has a cabin in the Pennsylvania woods, where it all happens..

a kantha break
Not my work!
I love kantha cloth, made mainly in Bangladesh. The amount of work in them is really amazing. Considering the conditions most of the stitchers live it, I can't imagine the concentration needed to keep the attention to detail these have. I would like to travel to India, Bangladesh and the sub-continent someday, I have several correspondences there, and it's always a treat to receive a real letter, sometimes with colorful designs drawn all over them.

almost finished
I think I posted this a while ago, and lo and behold I am almost finished with this soon. It really doesn't look much like this anymore. My gallery here takes submissions for solo shows only 2 weeks a year, first two weeks in July. I think it's as much a practice in discipline as well as art content. Anyway, I plan to submit, and this piece is going to be part of it. I'm taking pictures of a bunch of stuff today and tomorrow, so hopefully will have a load more of finished art + craft. It has been a very productive Spring.
This is hand dyed linen, cut and resewn, with embroidery floss and appliqued cotton. It is now part of an art quilt, and is entitled the promise land .

sewing still life
I think these things travel with me from room to room. I'm always searching for my thimble, which is usually in my pocket! I love the Valdani 3 strand floss for all kinds of projects. No separation needed!

Sargent
If I could paint like anyone I chose, (besides VanGogh) I'd pick John Singer Sargent. His use of paint and light and his deft hand is amazing to me. It's nice to read about a painter who was successful during his lifetime, and he was. He painted all sorts of society figures, including Presidents. I also like that late 19th, early 20th century period anyway. He painted pictures that were wonderful, vibrant and still could be appreciated by non-society folk.

hand stitched atc
Here's a little hand stitchery for an ATC (artist trading card) swap going on at Flickr.
Our theme was fairy tales...I love doing handwork, it's sort of the mother ship for me, as my granny, long ago started me with simple embroidery stitches on a hanky. I love fooling around with the threads and stitches and such. Since then the whole sewing thing has been with me, sometimes as clothes, sometimes as quilts..

knitting
Well, if I had unlimited resources, I would go bonkers buying all the Colinette, and Noro yarn I could. I really love artistic yarns, texture and especially color! However, that is not the case! The shawl is Colinette, giotto (love love this yarn) and mohair..the scarf is Noro Kureyon..

Diebenkorn
Richard Diebenkorn, to me was a painter's painter. He is probably most famous for is 'Ocean Park' series, which were very large canvases painted in an abstract expressionist way. I love his treatment with paint, the way he used his medium. I have been happy to see his work several times, and love all his stuff..
