baby quilt

Made for a friend who just had a little girl.. I love all ths bright fabric that's popular now, the Amy Butler etc..types..this was an easy project, instead of batting, I just backed it with butter color flannel and hand quilted freeform circles with embroidery floss.

fassett

I can think of no one who is more of a colorist than Kaffe Fassett. He left the US to go to England, and has become an icon. Needlepoint, knitting, mosaic, quilting, painting, he is a real role model for me. I had the pleasure of attending a lecture given by him. He garners crowds of adorers like a rock star.

knit a bit

I did finish a scarf from this book, the chevron scarf. I used big needles (10?) to get a more lacy look..this was yarn from here, her yarn is great, and I think is was sock yarn.. I'm not a very flashy knitter, cables, bobbles etc. I like simple stitch patterns with really wowie yarns.

weekend

I worked on a still life..

I did a little gardening..
until it got too hot, and my backed ached! So I sat here:

Vermeer

I thought I might post now and then about artist I admire, painters, writers, musicians etc..

One I love, and have read a lot about is the Dutch painter Jan Vermeer. I can't imagine the detail and painstaking observation he did to get his results.

flower + meme

I've been tagged by Rachel from this blog..here goes...
1) What was I doing 10 years ago?

We were living in Florida, near Ft. Lauderdale (Pembroke Pines) I was 7 months pregnant with our 3rd child, and I had learned to quilt!

2)What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?
*gah* Renew my military ID card, get the sticker put on my car..I just got a new windshield..paint!(yeah), fold laundry (boo), and plant the rest of the sunflower seeds in the garden.!

3)Snacks I enjoy: YES! umm, cookies, fritos, popcorn, strawberries, and any chocolate item, yes I know, not too healthy.

4)Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Not sure I'd want billions..millions ok :-) definitely donate a large quantity to St. Jude's hospital, or any children's hospital, for that matter. Also to organizations that help women in 3rd world countries. I'd love to set up a co-op that helps people become self-sustaining.

5)Places I have lived:
Garden Grove & Oceanside CA,
Hatch End in Middlesex co. in England,
Leavenworth KS,
Iwakuni Japan,
Pembroke Pines Fl,
Fredericksburg Va

6)People I want to know more about:

Maddie's photos and blog are an inspiration. If I was a photographer, I'd want to take pictures like her.

Glennis uses shibori technique to dye silk and ribbon that will make your eyes fall out of your head

Cathy's art is so amazing, I want to sit and fiddle with all my sewing stuff all day after looking at her creativity.

IF "wide"

"Tree line" The park by us has a wide open space, a meadow bordered by trees all around, many, many times I've seen deer all around there.. I'm trying to get outside to paint some, lately, when the rain stops! Oil on canvas, 14 x 28.

entrelac

Working on a scarf, w/a little entrelac, it's quite addicting. The incessant rain has had good effect on the working, at least! Here's to a sunny weekend, I hope!

storm

We've been having a crazy weekend of rain, wind, floods, and even a few tornados here. I'm hoping this will all pass soon, as the week goes on. The art festival is an outdoor one, and I don't really want to fight the weather next weekend!
